Aquapak's solution for the fashion industry's garment bags
Fashion’s plastic problem
In order to deliver their products in premium condition, major brands ship each garment in a protective bag. Traditionally these protective bags are produced with low density polyethylene which are hydrophobic and harmful to the environment.
Whilst these major brands would prefer to not use protective bags, they are needed to ensure the highest level of quality. Over 5 millions tons of plastics are used each year for garment protection bags in the apparel industry.
How Aquapak solves fashion’s plastic problem
Aquapak can replace all single-use plastic garment packaging with its ‘leave no trace’ bag – an environmentally safe plastic that is recyclable, biodegradable, water soluble and marine-safe.
Benefits of using garment bags made from Hydropol:
Finisterre designs functional and sustainable products for those that share a love of the sea. Born over a decade ago from the needs of hardy British surfers, they aim to build the best and most sustainable products possible. Finisterre’s range includes wetsuits, clothing and accessories.
Their customers love the outdoors and care deeply about protecting the environment, the proliferation of plastic waste on land, and ocean pollution. Finisterre wanted a product that would retain the functionality of their existing packaging whilst providing a solution that would tackle plastic pollution.
Aquapak was asked to work Finisterre and its packaging suppliers to develop clothing packaging that leaves no trace i.e. eliminate the use of traditional polymer, single-use bags to bags that disappear safely, are non-toxic and marine-safe.
In this video, their Product Development Manager, Niamh O’Laoighre shares more:
“To see the completion of this project and the last 10 months’ work, is one of the most exciting moments in my career to date. To be able to launch something so ground breaking and literally world changing is an honour, and to be partnered with Aquapak, leading the way for the next generations is unbelievably exciting.” Niamh O’Laoighre, Finisterre Design Team
