Form Fill & Seal (FFS) packaging’s plastic pollution problem
The majority of Form Fill & Seal packaging are poly-based combinations of materials, and therefore unrecyclable.
How Aquapak solves FFS packaging’s plastic pollution problem
Aquapak’s patent-protected technology, Hydropol™ can be used to make in-line Form Fill & Seal packaging. This makes it a viable alternative to current FFS packaging but now with multiple end-of-life properties.
Features of FFS packaging made only with Hydropol™:
- Single use, clear poly-based FFS packaging can be replaced with versions made from Hydropol™ , an environmentally safe plastic that is non-toxic, water soluble and marine-safe.
- Hydropol™ maintains product functionality with high strength, puncture resistance, grease resistance and gas barrier
- Packaging can be disposed of safely by end-users by dissolving in hot water
- Consumers can reuse the packaging for food waste and dispose of them in their food waste collections for anaerobic digestion.
Features of Hydropol™ coated paper FFS packaging:
- Hydropol™ coated paper can be made into in pouch or bag form
- Hydropol™ maintains product functionality with high strength, puncture resistance, grease resistance and gas barrier
- End user packaging can be recycled in the mixed paper stream
- Valuable fibre is released back into paper manufacturing through paper recycling
- The Hydropol™ coating dissolves i.e. is not substantive to fibre and does not affect paper sheet properties. It also does NOT form part of ‘mill rejects stream’
- Paper coated with Hydropol™ can be recovered with both paper or corrugated case at recycled paper mills
- Segregated Hydropol™ coated paper such as coated white food board can be recycled at virgin-fibre based mills.
