Why use Hydropol for Food Waste Bags?

Food Waste Bags, made of Hydropol™, can be used to collect food waste (such as fruit, vegetables, meat and fish, dairy, perishables, liquid food waste and grease trap contents) and convert it into energy and fertiliser using anaerobic digestion. Case Study: EarthPower Technologies

EarthPower Technologies is a joint venture between Cleanaway and Veolia. They convert organic waste material from the industrial, commercial and residential sectors into green energy and nutrient-rich fertiliser.

They filled hot water soluble food waste bags made from Hydropol™ with food waste. This contained the typical organic waste of their customers such as fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, diary, perishables, confectionery and grease trap contents. They also filled one Hydropol™ bag with 12 empty Hydropol™ bags.

The filled bags were put into EarthPower’s Hydro pulper via a pulper screw conveyor. The food waste and Hydropol™ bags were processed in their industrial blender, being pulped with warm water at approximately 45 degrees Centigrade for 10 minutes.

The contents of the pulper was then washed and discharged. As seen in the image below, during examination traditional plastics were still evident however, there were no remains of the Hydropol™ bags.
